I am Seb, born and raised around Amsterdam, the Netherlands. During my medicine training, I did internships in Surinam, St Maarten, and Ghana. I became a fellow GP in the Netherlands in 2013 and later received my NZ GP fellowship as well. In 2015 we decided to take our 2 young boys to New Zealand because there seemed to be no better, safer, and more beautiful place in the world to grow as a family. I started working as a doctor at The Doctors Motueka, and after several months with friends and family, and working as a GP, jail doctor, and doctor for illegal and uninsured immigrants in the Netherlands in 2022, I made the move to Greenwood Health. I spend most of my time outside work hiking, mountain biking, surfing, and going on adventures with my family.
As a doctor, I really enjoy getting to know people’s strengths and helping to overcome difficulties in their health.
In the first 3 months in New Zealand, I saw more skin cancer than in my 12 years of training and working as a doctor in the Netherlands, so I decided to do more training in skin cancer medicine and surgery through the Skin Cancer Collage Australia. I am now contracted by the Nelson Hospital to perform more complex skin cancer surgery in Motueka and Golden Bay. Also, I am trained to do the ‘snip’, or vasectomy, and I do several of these every week.
